When retail design services go retro

To launch Nike’s throwback kick, Kyrie Irving’s Uncle Drew, we turned an empty stock room into a 1970’s rumpus room. Groovy.

Retail environment production from the ground up

Working at Toronto’s flagship House of Hoops location, we turned the back room into Uncle Drew’s rec room: a happening hotspot for people to check out the new shoe. We cleared out all inventory, stock, and shelving to start with a totally blank space, and that’s when the retail environment design really kicked off: we sourced authentic wood panelling to cover the walls, shag rugs for the floors, retro clocks and electronics, and velvet era-appropriate furniture. We packed the walls with tacky trinkets and old-school posters, threw a brown bead curtain on the door, and filled the room with more brown and orange than was probably healthy.

Interactive visual merchandising for an engaging space

We wanted the product display design to integrate seamlessly into the space, so we included the kicks on ‘Uncle Drew’s Wall of Achievement’, a cheesy display case packed with old trophies and pairs of the Uncle Drew shoe for customers to interact with. The space becomes fully interactive with record players with a curated list of second-hand records collected from music stores all over the city, a dart board, and a working Pop-A-Shot arcade game. There was even a functioning barber chair and on-site barber to keep everyone’s fades looking fresh.
